This is funny. Please don't be offended but I just heard someone talk about the differences between "weaves" and "hair extensions" and it was said that 'blacks' wear weaves and 'whites' wear extensions.

Anyway - go to your local hair salon. Most of the time, they are the main contact for the kind of hair and type of hair you want. If your hair is long and curly, you would not want to go out and purchase hair on your own. Or if you are looking at specific types of colors - you need a professional to match the colors and texture of hair.

If this is your first time - check the phone book for stylists in your community who are EXPERIENCED at placing hair extentions in the hair. Some people use glue and others sew or weave the hair pieces into the head. You need someone who is willing to consult with you and allow you to ask questions until you are satisfied.

I know a caucasian friend who tried extensions and did not get human hair- and found that the fake hair frizzed up, pulled up and basically tore her hair from the scalp almost - just to get it out.

The processing has become more simplified (glue) and even more complex (Oprah, Paris), but expensive.

Make sure you are happy - ask around - see some 'real' hair that you can touch and then make your decision.

You dont say where you live Jade. I get them for my girls from a market in Nottingham (UK) and we pay about 鎷?5 for a pack which will do about 5 full heads, you can get them on the internet but its best to go in person to get a really good colour match. If you can ever afford it tho get real extensions(BONDED ONES LIKE RACOON) done at a good reputable salon who have been doing them for many years. I have had them 3 x over the past 10 years and took them out 2 weeks ago. My hair is in fantastic condition (too good in fact) and has grown loads. They are initally expensive (ish) about 鎷?50 for a full head but then the maintenance costs are really quite low at about 鎷?5 every 6 weeks and they really are the business.Just make sure you go to a good salon and you will be fine, they will not do your own hair any damage as long as you are careful and have your regular maintenance.

I get my daughters the glue in wefts (as i mentioned above) and they are really good and last about 3 washes before they need putting in again. Whichever way you go good luck and enjoy your lovely new long locks x
