Hair extensions are fairly costly. It depends on your 1) hair length and color of your hair 2) whether do you require the salon's hair extensions of you have your own hair extension source and 3) the method of hair extensions that you choose. Frankly, I have done hair extensions before when I wanted to extend my fringe.

To cut costs, if possible, provide the salon with your own hair extensions. If that is possible, make sure your hair extensions are almost similar in color and texture to your natural hair. Most of the extensions cost a bomb because the clients don't have their own hair extension soure.

Of course, the longer your hair, the costlier the extensions are.

Also, it depends on which type of hair extensions method you are going for. There are many types such as including braiding, weaving, bonding, clip-ons, heat shrink tubing, metal tubing and adhesive based fusion. Braiding and weaving is normally for black ethnic hair and the rest are suitable for all types of hair. I chose the adhesive based fusion for my hair extensions previously because it's the best method, it doesn't damage your natural hair and it can withstand chemical processes on your hair. Of course, it's more expensive than the rest.

Tell you what. Pop by your salon the next time round, get a hair wash and casually ask them how much it costs to get hair extensions for you and let them examine your hair type and your hair length. Get their professional advice and cost estimation then decide are you still keen on doing the hair extensions. This way, you get a nice hair wash and a blow dry, while you get consultation from your stylist :)

it really depends on what kind of extentions you get, how long they are, thickness, etc..... some you can get really cheap like at the mall (clip ons) and others done by professionals at a salon (involving real human hair) can cost upto $2,000 or more.
